Melissa Gibbs

Board of Directors

Melissa Gibbs has been an advocate for children in North Carolina for twenty years. She has served as an Early Childhood Quality Improvement Specialist; was coordinator and facilitator at The Family Resource Center; served as a teacher and director for The Family Center; and now serves as the director and teacher at Little Creek Preschool. She has a passion for providing opportunities to children to discover the world through safe and enriching experiences, allowing them to grow and develop their strengths through play and exploration. Melissa has three children of her own who have guided her belief in the investment in a child’s life. She now has one grandson who brightens her days, as well. She is an avid hiker and lover of nature, often sharing her unique views of the world through her camera lens or by bringing the wonders of her hikes into her classroom. Melissa has a Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has continued her education and training in each of the roles in which she has worked, expanding her skill, training, and understanding with each experience. She works to share her skill in each position in which she works. Social Justice Storytime is one such organization with whom Melissa has contributed her insight and experience. SJS provides children and families an exposure to experiences with a world outside of their own, and empowers children to be a part of positivity and acceptance for our community today, and in the future. Melissa believes in our community and in the power that these positive interactions provide to the children and their families.
